Stevan Harnad’s research focuses on: 1) Sensorimotor category learning and categorical perception (psychophysics, psychophysiology, computational models); 2) Lexical representation and language origins and evolution (graph theoretical analyses of dictionary definition structure and computer games testing word definition capacity); 3) Open access research policy and scientometrics (research impact; institutional open access policy); 4) Volition and causality (the timing of voluntary movement); 5) Foundations of cognitive science (Symbol grounding, Turing test, consciousness); and (6) Nonhuman animal sentience, cognition and welfare.
