Richard Compton is a professor in the Department of Linguistics at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). His areas of interest are syntax and morphology. His research focuses on the nature of polysynthetic languages in the Inuit language, particularly in the dialects of Eastern Canadian Inuktitut. They include subjects such as lexical and functional categories, nominal incorporation, verbal agreement, linearization and word formation.
