Philippa Bell’s research focuses on teaching English as a second or foreign language with particular emphasis on explicit and implicit learning. Her work explores the explicit and implicit learning of second language grammar and how it is affected by explicit and implicit teaching, and by implicit knowledge of the first language. She is also interested in challanges related to learning a second language, such as auditory perception, frequency, and individual differences in cognitive abilities.
