CRBLM discussion: navigating the academic hiring process
The pandemic has brought significant changes to the already challenging area of academic hiring, although many aspects have stayed the same. What can potential candidates do to improve their chances and reduce the time and stress related to applying for positions? What significant changes have the past few years brought in how institutions evaluate potential new hires? How has the so-called “great resignation” affected the academic job market, if at all?
In this next instalment in our discussion series, we will hear from three presenters who will share their experiences in this area: our visiting Fulbright scholar, Ann Senghas (Columbia University), will speak about the job market in the US; long-time CRBLM member Deb Titone (McGill) will share insight gained from sitting on job search committees in Montreal; and our newest CRBLM member, Guilherme Garcia (ULaval) will speak about transitioning from a faculty position in the UK to one in Quebec.
We invite all CRBLM students, post-docs, and alumni to come explore ideas, identify strategies, and offer support around the theme of pursuing an academic career.
When: August 17, 1:00pm (Montreal time)
